December 2013

Hi Guys

Well, here it is again, the final entry of the year, it only seems like yesterday that I was writing last years entry!

It has been a good year for me, lots of work, lots of personal highs and very few lows, so on the whole 2013 has to go down as a year to remember, I hope it has been as memorable and successful for all of you.

Christmas (as I have said in previous years) is a special time for me, I love the togetherness of family life, the waking up on Christmas morning, the Christmas dinner, party games, buffet food and lots of laughter.

I love the Boxing Day horse racing, even though I lose the shirt off my back and then look forward to jetting off on my hols. For those of you that read my tweets, you'll know I'm off to New York this year. It will be my 5th time to this fabulous city and unlike other city's, I never seem to tire of it, there's always something new to see or somewhere to visit or eat – it is fabulous!

I have one more meeting for a channel 4 drama before I close up shop for Christmas and then, that is it for another year!

May I take this opportunity to thank all of you who log onto the website and have a look at these entries, all the very best. Have a fabulous Christmas and I truly hope 2014 brings you everything you could wish for and great success.

Until next time, happy Christmas, enjoy the holiday season and festivities.

November 2013

Hi Guys

I have taken a little time out before Christmas to kick back, chill and relax a little, I have even declined to go to the premiere of Obsession at the Odeon in London in a few weeks time!

It is not long now before I head out to New York for a fabulous vacation, it will be very cold, but lots of fun and I cannot wait.

The November entry will be exactly as the one you are reading now, but I will write my usual end of year diary entry before Christmas Eve, ensuring this is posted and online the same day.

It will give me a chance to sum up and reflect the year of 2013 and allow me to share my hopes and aspirations for the New Year.

In the meantime, take special care and I will speak to you all again soon.

September 2013

Hi Guys

I may as well start with the usual apology about this being late, which it is, so apologies!

In my last entry I stated the Sky drama, “Obsession” would air in October, but this is not the case. It is scheduled for transmission in the USA on January 23rd and we expect it to air in the UK around 10-12 weeks later, I'll let you know the exact date when I have it.

My work on “The Ark” has taken place and whilst I won't talk publicly and at length about my experience, suffice to say, it's been a bitterly disappointing job for me, I'd even describe it as my worst experience as an actor, in over 25 years. So that's it, enough said, we move on to the next project when it comes along.

I'm mentally and physically exhausted at the moment, my new puppy is really taking it out of me and the constant early dawn barking and restless sleeps have finally taken their toll. Thank heavens I fly out on a well deserved holiday in a couple of weeks. Not only do I need the sunshine, I need a little respite from Poppy, because although I love her to bits, the whole puppy thing is relentless and unforgiving.

My golf has started to pick up a bit, so I've invested in a brand new Titleist driver to improve getting off the tee in the right direction and with extra distance. Like the puppy, it's hard work, but I am getting there, expect to see me swinging away at a course near you at some point in 2014!

Having been exposed to the phenomenal worlds of “Game of Thrones” and “Ray Donovan”, I've now started and finished season one of “The walking dead” and am now a couple of eps into season 2 – all I can say is wow, now I know what all the hype is about and it's 100% deserved. These are three shows, I'd happily give my services for free, given the chance. The actors must be so proud, they're doing something really special.

I'm going to close now, as nothing has really happened since I last wrote and what has happened, I can't write about – ironic really!!

So until next time, take care

August 2013

Hi guys

Apologies for the slight delay, but it's been a mad few weeks…..

So, deep breath, here we go.

Let's get the easy stuff out of the way first, Scouting for Girls were awesome, we had a fabulous time at the races, although, as always at Windsor, I lost everything, including the shirt off my back. It's not a good track for me, but I still keep going!

The mad hatters tea party was incredible, I have written a review on trip advisor, posted on the 28th August which is entitled:- “Mad, yes, but totally fun and enjoyable!”, have a look, if you fancy doing something a bit unusual, next time you're in the smoke.

So let's talk work, it has been an incredible August. The transmission date for “Obsession” on Sky looks likely to be in October. It's a wonderful drama and I'm looking forward to watching it myself. I'll let you know the exact date, when I have it.

I finished night shoots on “Obsession” and managed to grab a few hours sleep before travelling to the BBC for a meeting with producer, Jonathan Phillips and director Paul Gibson, for the drama series “Father Brown”. What a lovely couple of guys they were, they made me feel extremely welcome and at ease, whilst I read for the part of Sgt Daniel Goodfellow, the local village bobby.

Little did I know, I would be seeing a lot more of them over the coming weeks, as I was offered the part and started work on the last 2 episodes of the current series.

It was fantastic, we worked on location in the Cotswolds with a great cast and crew, who made going to work, very easy and really enjoyable. I really hope I get asked back next year as a main cast regular, if another series gets commissioned. We will have to wait and see, but, fingers crossed.

The day after I completed filming, I once again found myself back at the BBC, for a meeting with casting director Jill Trevellick and director Richard Clark for new primetime drama “The Ark”. The meeting went really well and I have heard this morning, that I have been offered the role, shooting in Bristol and Dorset.

If you're interested, here's a link about the show, one thing is certain, it's going to be huge!

Well, this is probably the longest I've written in a while, so I'm going to get off now.

If anything else happens, I'll let you know, but as it stands, I can't seem to put a foot wrong, long may it continue!!

Until next time, take care.

July 2013

Hi Guys

Firstly, apologies for the mess up with last months entry, I just seemed to get further and further behind, until it was pointless updating it, as I was only days away from writing the July update.

It was a mad, bad July, so I can now take a deep breath and update you all.

A couple of meetings took place with Sky and CH4, both of which didn't pan out (well actually, one did, but not how I expected it to), I'll tell you a little more, later in the entry.

Firstly, Harvester restaurants. I was cast as the head chef in a new commercial, which is currently airing and can be seen, pretty much everywhere. Keep an eye out for it, as I'm only in at the top, for about 5 seconds – don't you just love commercials!

Things didn't work out on a nice job, shooting in Jordan, called “Fireball in the desert”, I can't say too much, as it would breach confidentiality, but I think it would have been fun to do.

I was also approached to play the part of Ben Goesser in a new drama for Sky. Again, for whatever reason, it didn't work out, until about a week later, when I received a call, asking if I would be interested in playing the character of “Gallagher” (again for Sky) in their new drama series, “Obsession – dark desires”.

I was sent the script and it's a nice part. I need to brush up on my American accent as it's set in the USA, I play the lead characters father, who tries to support his daughter after she becomes the victim of a stalking campaign.

Several nice scenes which involve me, (including night shoots) to complete, again, I can't say too much until it has transmitted, but, if it watches as well as it reads, it will be a cracker. I'll keep you posted on dates and add some further information in the August diary entry.

On a personal note, we are now proud owners of the most beautiful chocolate brown Cocker Spaniel puppy. She is 8 weeks old and although she's a bundle of mischief, she's a welcome addition to our family and I'm looking forward to spending lots of time with her over the coming months and years.

Well, I'm off now, I've developed sciatica in my left leg and it is killing. I'm hoping the therapist I will see in half an hour, will be able to put it right. If not, I'm going to need to visit Boots and stock up with painkillers – big style!

As always, if anything of interest happens, I'll add a “STOP PRESS”, if not, I'll write again in September, when I will have completed filming, been to the races and watched the fabulous Scouting for Girls, at an open air gig – fabulous!!

Take care.

June 2013

Hi Guys

I have been unable to complete the June diary entry due to a number of unforeseen issues.

This entry has now been archived.

Please click on the current month, for the most up to date entry.

May 2013

Hi Guys

Well, as promised, here is the May entry – and it's a lot longer than Aprils!

It's been a very busy month for me and for some reason, I seem to have done more than my fair share of corporate work.

For those who don't know what corporate work is, or how it fits into an actors remit, here's a quick guide.

Most companies offer training videos to help their employees address, or learn, certain things. It can be anything really and it's very varied. For me, I either present the piece to camera, introducing the video and different scenarios, or, I play one of the characters in the video.

During May, it's been the latter. I played a bank customer for Lloyds TSB, Raymond Cist for the British dietetic society and Gordon Watson for Bombardier trains. All were very different characters, but, fun to be part of.

The latter two, were great to play, as they were bigoted, homophobic, racists. It really allowed me as a performer, to get my teeth into something, which is very alien to me.

I wanted to say thanks to the cast, crew and production teams on the various shoots, for making me feel welcome and allowing me some artistic licence to push the characters as far as I dared.

I also have a commercial out shortly, which I filmed a few weeks ago, but, I'll tell you more about that in the June entry, as it gives me something else to write about!

On a personal note, I was able to get away for a few days in the sun to take the winter chill out of my bones. Spain was great and although I was only there for 3 whole days, it felt like a week, as the weather was so nice.

I have so much to look forward to over the coming months, that I constantly have to pinch myself, to know how lucky I am. Yes, I work hard, so I guess it's the fruits of my labour, but, I never take anything for granted and thank my lucky stars almost every day.

I won't bore you with what I'm doing and when, as it sounds like I'm gloating or being boastful, I promise, that not's the case, but suffice to say, I am so excited at being able to seeing my favourite group “Scouting For Girls” perform an outside gig in the summer and having the opportunity to attend a “Mad Hatters Tea Party”, at The Sanderson in London, not long after. If you're at either venue and see me there, come and say hello!

Well, that's me done. I'll catch up with you all in July, when I write the June entry.

Be good and take care.

March 2013

Hi Guys

It's a really short entry for the month of March!

It's been exceptionally quiet for me as I explore other avenues.

It was nice to be part of a large corporate shoot for Lloyds/TSB in the early part of the month. What made it even better was, I didn't have to go for an audition or meet and greet.

It's happened to me on a number of occasions and as an actor it's always satisfying to know that someone has either seen your work and liked it, or knows you from a previous job. Not only does it cut out the expense of travelling to the meeting, it's great to know that some people really do value what you do.

As I said, it doesn't happen a lot, but I guess to be offered roles in the Lloyds thing along with previous jobs such as The Glee Club, Coronation St, Gentons commercial, The Midnight Hop, Where the heart is and a voice over for PS2, makes the job a whole lot easier.

Anyway, I'm making this month short as I have stacks going on elsewhere, so, until next time.

Take special care

John xx
