June 2016

Hi Guys

My apologies for not writing the last couple of month's entries on time, it's just laziness on my part, but at least I’ll make amends today.

I hope you managed to see the Doctor's episode I mentioned a few months ago, I was pleased with how it transmitted as you have no artistic control about the editing process and are wholly reliant on the director and editor coming up with a great final piece, it was quite hard hitting and the subject matter of adoptive child care was handled well.

The other project I was involved with has still not been given a transmission date which is disappointing as we shot it a long time ago, I don’t know if there are some legal issues they’re trying to get over, but as yet, I still don’t have any news.

As you know I was summoned to be a juror and was assigned to 2 different jury's, the first was a rape case and the second was a handling stolen goods case, talk about an eye opener, I found the whole thing really interesting and I’d have no hesitation in doing it again, I was also fortunate to be asked to deliver the verdict as jury foreman!

There are plenty of things going on at the moment, but I’ll save the bits n bobs for a later date, it’ll give you something to read in the leaner months.

Until next time, take care.

Hi Guys

There is nothing of real importance to write about in May.

I will write a fuller entry in June.

Until next time, take care.

March 2016

Hi Guys

I write this from the Crown Court as I wait to be called back for my continued jury service, again I can't say anything about it (my whole life seems to be like this, when I go back and check previous entries, that's all I seem to say – so I'm sorry) as it would be foolhardy for me to do so, not to mention against the law!

Once the case is in the public domain and has concluded, I can share some stuff with you, but until then, I'll have to keep schtum!

I had a lovely holiday in the Canary Islands, despite the weather not being too clever, it's the first time (in over 15 years) I can remember it being overcast with most days being very cloudy and very windy. Because the sun couldn't get through the thick black clouds and the wind was blowing, people were sat around the pool with blankets – which is not ideal.

We had a few hours of sun here and there, but on the whole the weather was poor, which was a shame, so we hired a car, drove around the island and still had a nice time, despite the lack of sunshine. I guess there's only one thing for it – book another holiday!

Work is bubbling along nicely with a host of projects that I'm involved with, I've just finished a really nice shoot for an old friend of mine – Sean, who asked me to do a small presenting job for the NFU, it's always nice to help people out if I can as he has done so much for me in my career, with a whole host of things that he excels in, plus, it was fun to do and didn't take up too much time, so everyone was a winner – including the NFU.

Oh well, I'd better crack on as they've come in to take us back to court, so until next time, take care.

February 2016

Hi Guys

Well, that month flew by, talk about a whirlwind.

I was offered the guest lead on an episode of the BBC daytime drama “Doctors”.

I really enjoyed it because it was well written and quite dramatic. Obviously I can't say anything about the storyline, but it's a good one, I believe it will transmit on the 25th April 2016, keep an eye out for it, but I'm pretty confident of the date.

I shot my part over a couple of days, which was quite intense as the shoot schedule is pretty tight and there was a lot to do. It's quite nice sometimes being part of something that is so fast, as you have to just hit the ground running and get on it with it.

I also got told that I'd been selected for jury service, it's not something I've ever fancied doing, but now I've resigned myself to the fact, I'm quite looking forward to it.

I have a holiday booked next month, so it'll be nice to get away for a weeks break before things start to get a little crazy, I like to be busy with things in life, but not so busy that it's off the scale!

Well, I better crack on, so until next time

January 2016

Hi Guys

There is nothing of real importance to write about in January, other than to wish you all a happy 2016.

I hope the New Year brings you all the success and personal expectations you deserve.

I will write a fuller entry in February.

Until next time, take care.

October 2015

Hi Guys

A very quiet month for me in October, which I have to say I hate.

I did manage to get away for a week to Cyprus though, although the weather wasn’t great it was nice to relax and kick back a bit just reading books and exploring the island. It's been a long time since I last visited and so much has changed (not for the better either), I won’t be returning now because it has become very touristy and over developed which is a shame as that was the main reason I used to visit – peace, tranquillity and local culture, all of which seem to have gone “up the swanny”.

I managed to get a little self tape in before I left for Happy Valley 2, but I wasn’t that pleased with it, for some reason I looked huge in the clip, which I’m not, they say the camera never lies, but that's a lie in itself!

Anyway, suffice to say I heard nothing back which I’m glad about in a way, for personal reasons.

I finally finished off the BBC job “Lawful Killing” by going back to London and spending a few hours in front of a camera conducting interviews and comments about the programme – a bit like a “behind the scenes” piece, which was fun, I’ll have to wait (like you) now for it to be transmitted so I can see how it was all edited together, my thanks to everyone at Acme Films for making me feel so welcome, I hope it turns out brilliantly for you all.

Well, that's it, I said it was quiet, hopefully I’ll have more to report next month.

Until next time.

September 2015

Hi Guys

Another month has flown by and as I write this entry for September, we are already into October.

It's probably because I’m getting older, but the months are flying by in double quick time, even though a 24 hour day is exactly what it says – 24 hours!

My holiday to Cyprus is looming, so in a week or so I shall be flying out to this beautiful island to warm my bones, drink lots of local beer and read many books, I don’t think I've looked forward to a holiday as much because it's been a real busy year for me, apart from a few days in Tenerife back in June, that's it, so I need this break and cannot wait.

Work has now finished on the 4th series of Father Brown which means once it has transmitted in January, I will have been involved in 27 episodes, which is quite frightening.

I've enjoyed my time on Father Brown and had some moments of real fun bringing Sgt Goodfellow to life, I hope those of you who watch the show enjoyed my interpretation, although he only pops up occasionally and does a bit here and there, I like to think he adds something to the overall mix.

A number of Twitter followers from the USA and UK (who don’t know me personally) have written some lovely things about Goodfellow, so I thought I’d share a few with you as they’re quite touching ……

• Father Brown works because its character equation is well balanced. Without Sgt Goodfellow it will be a wheel with a missing spoke.

• Sgt Goodfellow would be a fun addition to FB's Scooby gang if he ever left the police.

• The scene in Father Brown where he tries to warn the ladies about the motorcycle & Sgt Goodfellows local knowledge were the best.

• I hope we’ll see Sgt Goodfellow in series 4 of Father Brown, his character has been my favourite of the police.

• Would love to see Sgt Goodfellow helping FB investigate something without the inspector knowing.

• I have to admit I did laugh at the scene where Sullivan & Sgt Goodfellow bet on FB, do they bet on the killer as well?

• As for Sgt Goodfellow, he should take his inspectors exams, become head of Kembleford police & enjoy working with Father Brown.

• The Owl of Minerva was wonderful, just wonderful, loved Sgt Goodfellow saving the day.

And far too many more, so to all of you, thank you x

I must also thank the team at BBC Birmingham, in particular Will, Caroline, Jonathan and Trudy, along with all the directors, cast and crew for making me feel so welcome.

Away from FB I have just completed a new BBC primetime drama entitled “Lawful Killing”, I can’t say too much about it, other than what's on the internet if you Google it, but as and when details are released, I’ll share the news with you, it’ll be gripping, so make sure you don’t miss it.

Things are bedding in nicely with my new agents, I've been seen for 3 jobs and converted 1 of them, so it's very encouraging. I said in a recent email to my agent that I was really excited about the future and our relationship. Whether things start to happen next week, next month, next year or beyond, I have total faith in him and the way he is going to steer the next stage of my career, I really hope I’ll be able to share news of lots of different projects that I will be involved with from now on.

Well, that's it for another month, take special care, I’ll speak to you again in the October entry.

August 2015

Hi Guys

For those of you who read this section on a regular basis, please accept my sincere apologies for not keeping it up to date.

There are no real excuses, but I've had a busy few months with a whole host of personal admin and housework projects that needed completing.

A little while ago, Philippa, my agent of 12 years (with a little sabbatical), announced she was retiring. It was a huge shock as we went back a long way and had a very successful working relationship.

It meant I had to start looking for new representation, I met with 4 different agents, 2 of whom had been recommended to me (cheers Mike and Mark) and 2 who had responded to my letter of request. In the end, it was a no brainer, I met with Ashley at Cole Kitchenn and we just seemed to hit it off. His passion for the business, his knowledge and “black book of contacts” along with his understanding of my needs and requirements, made the transition very easy and he is already hard at work, beavering away on my behalf.

As I write this in mid August, I have already been seen for great parts on Citizen Khan and Grantchester, I am really looking forward to the future with such a well known, reputable and proactive agency, and I am delighted to have become part of the Cole Kitchenn stable.

Because of the change of agents, I thought it would be a great opportunity to overhaul the website, get some new headshots done and edit more of my TV clips. This is now complete, and the new look website is up and running – it's even available to view properly on a mobile phone or tablet!

My thanks to Dan for the photo session, Sean for the editing, Bhushan for the website upgrade and Dave for the show reel update, without these people, it wouldn’t have been possible.

So, in a nutshell, that's why I've been a bit lax, however, it's business as usual from now on, with regular monthly updates, so please keep checking back to see what's been happening, or more excitingly, what's going to happen !?!?

Until next time, take special care
